Evenant’s Harmonic Exploration Roadmap is a simplified, practical approach to understanding and learning how to express yourself through the language of harmony. It aims to give you practical methods and principles in order to harmonize any melody, from simple to more complex chord choices – and break out of ever having to rely on “chord progressions” ever again, being able to come up with unique chord combinations that express the emotions and tell the stories you want to tell.
But most importantly, it is creating the foundation for you to go out further into the world of harmony on your own and explore everything it has to offer, and over time curate your personal expression and “sound”.

What Our Students Say
Truly great course! Just like the name of the course suggests, it really opens up your horizon and expands understanding of harmony.Having taken other courses on Evenant (and that’s the only place where I learnt how to write music) I was able to write my first feature film score. But I still constantly felt like I was confined to one key. (Yes, writing in D in satisfying… but!) Every time I would dare to use a borrowed chord, I wouldn’t be sure if I did it right. The methods of this course have been really liberating and gave me lots of confidence! Arn shares very clear ideas and exercises on how to change keys, modulate, how and when to use borrowed chords – everything I wanted to know when I signed up!
Writing music is so much more exciting and versatile with the harmonic tools that Arn demonstrates. They have one of those “Whoa!” effects when you do your homework and play around. I, and I bet other student too, caught myself thinking: “I didn’t know I could write music like this!” Undoubtedly very well structured, like all the other courses. But I would say that this course is even more entertaining than the others. Arn seems to really care that the learning process is enjoyable and fun. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to push beyond the boundaries of diatonic harmony!
I have always wanted to learn how to harmonise my work in different or at least more than just using the diatonic chords, I felt like knowing what I know (while this isnt a bad thing) wasn’t hitting certain emotions the way I wanted to convey.Having gone through the Harmonic Exploration Roadmap course by Arn really helped open my eyes to what possibilities are out there. With the depth that he has gone into with this course, it has armed me with a different thought process of how I want to tackle harmony. I look forward to practicing and utilising this knowledge in my future work.

Your Journey Through The Course
An introduction to Harmony
In this module, we’ll give you a deep introduction to the world of harmony and how to understand it from the ground up. We try to establish an understanding for harmony as a language, and learn the building blocks that make up the basic grammar and vocabulary. This way, you will be able to form sentences on your own, instead of just using “memorized phrases”, as in chord progressions. We’ll cover everything from fundamental harmony, to modes and scales, and everything in between
How To Harmonize Melodies and Themes
In this next module, we’ll look at a variety of ways to harmonize melodies – from the most simple, to a bit more complex. You will learn about the various choices you will face, how any options you really have, and how to go about navigating these decisions as you are in the composing process.
Borrowed Chords & Advanced Principles
In this module, you will dive deeper into more advanced topics and learn how to modulate and utilize borrowed chords in an intuitive way that doesn’t feel forced and unnatural. These principles will help you write more interesting and professional sounding themes, making you ale to level up the quality of your compositions.
Harmony In Action
In this final module, we’ll look at how we can implement what we’ve learned to actual themes and compositions. We’ll also break down an existing composition and analyze the harmonic movements and tie it together with the lessons from previous modules. You’ll also get an insight into Arn’s workflow and how you can try out various harmonic solutions to each idea.
