A recorded online workshop to help you consistently turn short ideas into full tracks without feeling stuck
Oh the eternal struggle most music producers face; Getting your low end just right, where it’s punchy, tight and warm without sounding muddy and overpowering.
Great low end is one of those things that separates great tracks from merely OK tracks, and what can make or break its usability for modern media – especially for the big screen.
Instead of hopelessly fumbling around and hoping for the best, what if we could follow a step by step system to ensure our low end is as tight and balanced as possible?
To do so, we’ve brought in Austin Seltzer to do a mixing workshop on just that – Nailing your low end.
During this online workshop, Austin will take you through his process for ensuring the low end is just right, while covering topics such as choosing which elements in your track should carry the low-end weight in the mix, how to have a proper balance between bass/sub in our full mix, as well as various applications across Trailer/Hybrid, Hip Hop/Trap, and Pop/Synthwave styles.
Here’s the workshop outline:
The reasons a lot of tracks sound muddy and imbalanced
A lot of issues with the low end stem from a few common mistakes and errors that can wreak havoc on the entire mix. Learn how to identify and avoid these in order to tighten your low end.
Instead of reinventing the wheel each time, learn a step by step process to ensure you get the low end right every time, instead of just winging it and hoping for the best.
Not all drums need low end, and not all bass should carry the sub-frequency
weight. If you try to make every low end element become the main focus, you will often end up with an overpowering or very muddy bass range – learn how to pick the right focus and support roles for your tracks to get a better result.
There’s a fine line between huge-sounding drums and low end that stacks up and
becomes muddy. We’ll explore how this works and how to find this sweet spot.
How to have the overall proper balance of bass/sub in your full mix
We’ll discuss mix bus processing to help even out the overall balance of a mix to ensure a proper balance, and getting a loud mix without distorting the low end.

Meet Your Instructor
Producers and engineers in the music industry are plentiful, but only a select few create a unique sound experience. The best share a deep understanding of sound technology and an equal yearning for creative experimentation. The very best also help clients from all genres and formats realize their individual vision while still realizing their own. With Austin Seltzer, you will find he is as rare as they come. An industrious producer and mixer dedicated to making an impact on the world, Austin uses his distinctive vision to help musicians produce a fuller, more immersive sound experience.
Austin was bitten by the music bug when his mother enrolled him in piano lessons at age four. As he grew, he discovered his love of technology and design while building rockets and watching airplanes take off with his father. It was only natural when the two worlds converged, and by the age of eleven, Austin began programming music in an early Digital Audio Workstation. He spent the next decade entrenched in his craft.
After graduation, Austin moved from Dallas to Nashville to attend The Blackbird Academy. While a student at The Blackbird Academy, Austin enjoyed mentorship from some of the most outstanding audio engineers and producers in the world, such as Vance Powell, Dave Pensado, Andrew Scheps, and Jacquire King.
