Module 1: An introduction to Harmony
In this module, we’ll give you a deep introduction to the world of harmony and how to understand it from the ground up. We try to establish an understanding for harmony as a language, and learn the building blocks that make up the basic grammar and vocabulary. This way, you will be able to form sentences on your own, instead of just using “memorized phrases”, as in chord progressions. We’ll cover everything from fundamental harmony, to modes and scales, and everything in between
Module 2: How To Harmonize Melodies and Themes
In this next module, we’ll look at a variety of ways to harmonize melodies – from the most simple, to a bit more complex. You will learn about the various choices you will face, how any options you really have, and how to go about navigating these decisions as you are in the composing process.
Module 3: Borrowed Chords & Advanced Principles
In this module, you will dive deeper into more advanced topics and learn how to modulate and utilize borrowed chords in an intuitive way that doesn’t feel forced and unnatural. These principles will help you write more interesting and professional sounding themes, making you ale to level up the quality of your compositions.
Module 4: Harmony In Action
In this final module, we’ll look at how we can implement what we’ve learned to actual themes and compositions. We’ll also break down an existing composition and analyze the harmonic movements and tie it together with the lessons from previous modules. You’ll also get an insight into Arn’s workflow and how you can try out various harmonic solutions to each idea.
