But for a lot of artists, learning how to approach character design and create unique and compelling concepts can be a huge challenge. It can seem super complicated to navigate all the different elements of pose, facial anatomy, clothing and prop design, all at once.
This two-day workshop takes us through both essential parts of a successful character – DESIGN and PAINTING. You’ll learn my simplified, easy-to-follow process for designing and rendering out character concepts so you’ll have the tools you need to be successful as a character artist.

We’re Joshua Crispin and Arn Andersson, together we’ve got over a decade of experience in this industry and have had our music featured in everything from Hollywood movie trailers, video games, and advertisement campaigns, to releases with world class orchestras and DJ’s.

The Workshop Outline
Part 1 : On design day, we discussed concepts like ideation, attitude, and the “human factor”. We incorporated these essentials into a design demo where have unlocked some key visual design principles that use shape and design language to get reliably great results.
Part 2 : On day two, we took one of our finished designs and render it to portfolio levels of polish. When you pair great design with a convincing and stylish painting, you’ve got a difference-making portfolio piece! Tyler showed you all of his painting techniques and share some essential hacks that give great results with less effort than you might think.
In the final part, Tyler went over student submissions, giving feedback, and doing live paint-overs, as well as answering any remaining questions.

How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this content for as long as you like – across any and all devices you own.
You can get started with very little! However, all of our courses require a computer and internet connection to access, and some software and/or hardware. For our Music courses, you'll need a DAW (like Ableton, Cubase, Logic, FL Studio or Studio One), and a computer powerful enough to handle these programs.
For our Design courses a drawing tablet is required. Anything beyond these basics is pretty much up to how much one wants to invest into the gear and software.
